Last weekend's storm, which caused the most damage in the southern part of Denmark, also put the Port of Frederikshavn on the other end.
Thus, the 322-meter-long ship Zafiro Producer broke free from its mooring during the storm. The ship is at M.A.R.S. Europe A/S, where it will be scrapped and recycled.
Sources tell DOI.dk, under the promise of anonymity, that the Zafiro Producer caused serious damage to other vessels in the port. Thus, a floating dock at Orskov Yard A/S was damaged when the detached ship crashed into it, but even worse was the drilling rig Noble Resilient, which was also hit by the detached ship.
During the weekend, the 26-man crew on the rig had to be evacuated because the situation was dangerous. The collision also meant that the helicopter deck on Noble Resilient was severely damaged.
According to sources, the damage to the drilling rig and the floating dock was estimated to amount to a double-digit amount of over 50 million kroner.
Noble does not want to talk about the weekend's evacuation or the damage that may have an impact on Noble Resilient's future work tasks. These are tasks that can be difficult with a non-functional helicopter deck.
"However, we have no comments on the case, where the course of events has already been excellently described by the port director over there," reads a written response from the head of media relations & senior communication partner at Noble.
Here the message was as follows:
- We have concentrated on carrying out "damage control" and limiting the damage. First of all, we are pleased that there have been no injuries, said the director of the Port of Frederikshavn, Mikkel Seedorf Sørensen, to Nordjyske.
DOI.dk has tried in vain to obtain a comment from the director of the Port of Frederikshavn, from the director of Orskov Yard A/S and the director of M.A.R.S. Europe A/S.
