Negotiations on next year's finance bill are currently underway at Christiansborg. Many have opinions on how the state's funds should be used. This also applies to Green Power Denmark, which hopes that the Finance Act 2025 will give a real boost in the green direction.
Specifically, the business organization is coming up with 39 proposals for how to make the green choice easier. The proposals include one of the organization's flagship issues: an end date for the electricity tax, but also an ambition that the heat pump pool should be doubled so that gas can be removed from the Danish heating supply, and that the increase in the registration tax on electric cars should be postponed.
- The Danish economy is doing well, and we should take advantage of this to ensure a green future by accelerating electrification. We will seriously reduce CO2 emissions when green electricity replaces fossil fuels. Therefore, I hope that our proposal can inspire the government and the Danish Parliament to make the Finance Act greener and more electric, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark, in a press release.
The proposals should generally help ensure that the electrification of Danish society picks up pace. According to a calculation made by the business organization, Danish electricity consumption has only increased by one terrawatt-hour since a broad majority in the Danish Parliament set the climate target in 2020. This corresponds to two percent of the necessary electrification up to 2030.
PtX must receive more support
In recent weeks, several large PtX projects have had to postpone the start of production indefinitely. This is because fossil fuels are too cheap compared to green fuels. In order to speed up Danish hydrogen production, Green Power Denmark proposes that the government allocate over 1.3 billion DKK in investment support for electrolysis from 2025 to 2028. During the same period, the organization will also allocate DKK 160 million, which will ensure that the authorities' processing of applications for Power-to-X goes faster.
- With our enormous wind resources, Denmark has every opportunity to become the center of a green hydrogen industry, which creates growth and jobs nationally and CO2 reductions worldwide. But the market is still immature and fossil fuels are much cheaper. Therefore, there is a need for new initiatives and conditions that can push the hydrogen industry in Denmark forward, says Kristian Jensen.
Green Power Denmark's proposed finance law also contains initiatives that accelerate the expansion of solar cells and wind turbines, support the green industry and maintain a strong research and innovation environment within green energy and climate technology.
