After long negotiations, the countries at COP28 have agreed on an agreement in which there is agreement that the world's countries must work towards a transition to green technologies from fossil fuels.

The Confederation of Danish Industry calls the agreement "an important step in the green transition", but emphasizes that there is still a need to increase international efforts. More green energy and a rapid phasing out of fossil energy are necessary if we are to slow down global temperature increases and ensure a real green transition.

- It is a huge victory for Denmark and Danish companies that renewable energy is to be tripled and energy efficiency is to be doubled. We had hoped for a more ambitious and binding agreement text on the phasing out of fossil fuels, but the final text is a compromise that has required political will. We are delighted with the great green fingerprint, says Lars Sandahl Sørensen, CEO of DI, in a press release.

According to the director, work must now continue on realizing the things that the countries have reached an agreement on at the climate summit.

- Now it is just important that the agreement actually becomes a reality. Green investments must be accelerated, and shovels must be put in the ground both in the host country, the Emirates, and from the USA to China. When we meet again at COP29, I hope that the world community will not only talk about how we realize a green transition, but also actually do it.

Danish companies can help the transition on its way

Denmark has been strongly represented at the climate summit. Among other things, 32 Danish companies have been in Dubai to showcase their proposals for technologies that can help the green transition on its way.

For example, these could be wind turbines, energy-efficient solutions, green hydrogen production, cables for transporting green electricity and biogas, which are needed in the green transition locally and globally, and DI believes that Danish companies can generally benefit from a green transition of the world.

- Many countries have set ambitious climate goals, and several have already turned their attention to Denmark and Danish companies' green competencies and solutions. But now there are 200 countries that must phase out fossil fuels and phase in green solutions, and we certainly expect that there will be even greater demand for green Danish products, because the world community knows that Denmark is ahead in this regard, says Lars Sandahl Sørensen.
