Danish MEP wants to open mines in the EU in search of raw materials

Member of the European Parliament Sigrid Friis from the Danish Social Democrats is ready to open mines within the EU's borders to obtain crucial raw materials for the green transition. She is also proposing state aid to get the industry going because it is strategically important. This is reported by Børsen.dk.

Sigrid Friis replaced the experienced Morten Helveg Petersen at EP24, who left the parliament after ten years. Sigrid Friis, like Morten Helveg Peteresen, has spoken out about the importance of the green transition, and if the EU is to succeed with the green transition, it requires access to critical raw materials and minerals. Sigrid Friis is therefore calling for the EU not to be dependent on importing raw materials from countries that are not seen as "an alliance partner".

-  We have had a focus on production costs and price for too long, instead of realizing that there is also value in strategic autonomy, she tells Børsen.
