WSP has been selected to prepare the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Danish part of the power cable that will connect Energiø Bornholm with Germany. The task is being carried out for the German grid operator 50Hertz and the Danish Energinet, while the German company Bioconsult is acting as a sub-consultant. This is stated by WSP Denmark in a press release.
The environmental assessment must cover the entire section from Bornholm to the Danish maritime border and ensure that the project complies with Danish and European environmental legislation. The purpose is to assess how the establishment and operation of the power cable affects nature, people and society.
- We are pleased to contribute our expertise to this strategically important project, which places extremely high demands on thorough environmental studies, says Lars Sloth, Environmental Director at WSP Denmark.
The work will include mapping of nature and the environment, analysis of impacts during construction and operation, comparison of different cable routes and technical solutions, and interaction with other energy projects in the Baltic Sea. In addition, consultations, citizen meetings and regulatory processing are part of the process.
