The last wind turbine has now been installed in Ørsted's Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind projects off the west coast of Taiwan. This marks the completion of a key part of the offshore construction work on the 920 MW project.  Ørsted said in a press release.

The offshore wind farms are located 35-60 km off Changhua County and consist of 66 wind turbines with a capacity of 14 MW each. Offshore construction work began in February 2025, while installation of the wind turbines began in April of the same year. The installation was carried out by Siemens Gamesa with Cadeler's installation vessel Wind Maker.

Since the first power was delivered in July 2025, the offshore wind farms have produced electricity for the Taiwanese power grid under a long-term power purchase agreement that was signed in 2020. According to Ørsted, Greater Changhua 2b and 4 are the first offshore wind projects in the Asia-Pacific region to deliver green power on this basis.

- Now that all wind turbines have been installed, we have reached an important milestone in the expansion of the offshore wind industry in Taiwan and in the construction of Ørsted's construction portfolio of 8.1 GW, says Per Mejnert Kristensen, Regional Director for Asia-Pacific at Ørsted.

Fast and safe construction

Installation of the 66 wind turbines completed in just 275 days. During the installation work, the company reported that approximately 131,576 working hours were recorded offshore without any lost-time accidents.

- Completing the installation of the offshore wind turbines for a 920?MW project in just one season is an unparalleled feat, especially given the highly variable weather and challenging sea conditions in the Taiwan Strait. It reflects our efficient execution, rigorous risk management and close coordination across offshore activities, logistics and installation planning, all supported by a strong safety culture, says Jayaram Naidu, Program Director for Ørsted's Greater Changhua offshore wind farms.

The project is now entering a phase of commissioning the wind turbines, testing the electrical system and completing the cable work. Greater Changhua 2b and 4 are expected to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2026.

The 583 MW Greater Changhua 4 offshore wind farm is equally owned by Ørsted and Cathay Life. The parties have also entered into an agreement for Cathay Life and its affiliate Cathay Power to acquire a 55% stake in Ørsted's 632 MW Greater Changhua 2 offshore wind farm. The transaction is expected to close in conjunction with commercial commissioning in the third quarter of 2026.
