The registration of additional areas for potential state-designated energy parks will open on 1 December 2025, and applicants can submit areas via a digital form at plst.dk until 27 February 2026. This is stated by the Danish Planning and Rural Development Agency in a press release.
When an area has been registered, it will be assessed by relevant authorities, and a dialogue will be initiated between the applicant and the municipality to further clarify the area and clarify whether the municipal council can agree to a designation.
Energy parks are areas designated by the Minister for Urban and Rural Areas in accordance with the rules in the Act on State-Designated Energy Parks with the aim of promoting the installation of solar cell systems and onshore wind turbines as well as the establishment of PtX plants or other commercial developments.
A designation requires municipal support and must meet the requirements in the Energy Parks Act regarding expected electricity production. An area cannot be designated if national interests are decisively against it. According to the law, special conditions apply for planning for renewable energy in energy parks with a view to realizing the projects.
The designation of energy parks on land is one of the elements of the Climate Agreement on more green energy from solar and wind on land, which was concluded on 12 December 2023 between the government (S, V and M), SF, K, EL, RV and ALT. The designation of energy parks is based on an act on state-designated energy parks, which entered into force on 1 July 2024.
There is currently a dialogue about 17 possible locations for the first state-designated energy parks from the previous rounds, where municipalities could submit areas.
