The green transition in Denmark must be accelerated to, among other things, ensure that Denmark can become independent of Russian gas and phase out other fossil fuels.

At least that's what the new government believes. In the government's framework, it calls the climate crisis "the greatest challenge of our generation." That is why it has set a goal for Denmark to be CO2-neutral by 2045. And set a new goal of a 110 percent reduction in 2050 compared to 1990, which is an advance on previous ambitions.

Among other things, it must focus on the conversion of our heat consumption to green heat and energy sources.

"It is imperative for both Denmark and Europe to quickly get rid of fossil fuels for security reasons - also for reasons of electricity and heating prices in Danish households. It is the government's goal that as many households as possible get away from individual gas and oil boilers as quickly as possible, which will contribute to lowering Danes' energy costs in the coming winters," it says, among other things. in the government's framework.

Will establish a crisis response team

To support implementation at all levels, the government will therefore establish a national energy crisis response team (NEKST) based on the same model as the national operational staff (NOST).

NEKST, with the involvement of relevant societal actors, will, among other things:

• Ensure national coordination of the rollout of district heating and other efforts aimed at reducing the consumption of natural gas as quickly as possible and replacing it with renewable energy.

• Identify barriers to the agreed ambitions for scaling solar and wind on land and offshore wind and recommend to the government any measures that can accelerate the expansion.

• Support the expansion of the electricity grid in places where there are already challenges with capacity today, and contribute to ensuring that the expansion is at the forefront of electricity consumption and the production of electricity from renewables energy.

The green business organization Green Power Denmark welcomes the initiative with NEKST, and looks forward to participating in the implementation of the initiative.

- In seven years, we will produce and use about three times as much electricity as we do today. This will require a stronger electricity grid. It is therefore urgent to loosen the straitjacket on the electricity grid companies, so that they can, for example, start burying cables before a need arises in an area. It is good to see that the government is focusing on this, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.
