Lolland Municipality has decided to submit three concept proposals for large solar power plants for public consultation for six weeks. The plants, proposed by European Energy, will cover a total of over 500 hectares and supply electricity to a future PtX plant at Stensø in Nakskov. However, the decision was made amid great disagreement in the city council. This is reported by Folketindende.dk.
- Now the plants are coming as surprises to the open-mouthed local population, said Henning Alfred Rasmussen, a member of the city council for Din Stemme.
The chairman of the climate, technology and environment committee, Tine Vinther Clausen (V), emphasized that they are still in an early phase and that the projects can be adjusted along the way. She explained that new plants are necessary to be able to supply new power to the PtX plant.
However, the city council was divided on whether the projects will create enough jobs on Lolland, and several expressed concern that building permits could be abused commercially. Independent Leo Christensen pointed out that the municipality cannot ensure that a legally binding agreement between the municipality and European Energy exists, and referred to previous resale of projects. A citizens' meeting about the three plants is planned for June 11.
