Over half of the country's Coop stores and user associations now have at least one charging station where drivers can charge their electric car. OK writes in a press release. The goal was set at the end of 2021, when OK and Coop entered into an agreement to strengthen the charging infrastructure for electric cars. The 500 charging stations have now been set up across Denmark.
– We are working hard to make charging easy and accessible for electric car drivers in both small and large cities across the country. This requires a strong public charging infrastructure, and here the charging stations at Coop stores and user associations play an important role. Together with our charging parks and charging stations in public spaces, they help make it easy to own an electric car in Denmark, says OK CEO Michael Løve, who is OK CEO.
At Coop, the initiative is seen as a natural step towards more sustainable solutions.
“Sustainability is a central part of our identity at Coop. That is why it has been natural for us, together with OK, to take the lead in making it easier for Danes to drive green and with less impact on the climate, also outside the big cities. With this initiative, we are taking advantage of our large presence in local areas throughout the country – as an opportunity for both the environment and our customers,” says Thor Skov Jørgensen, CEO of Coop.
The need for more charging stations has grown in line with the spread of electric cars. In March, approx. 80 per cent. of all newly registered private cars are electric cars, and there are now over 384,000 electric cars in Denmark. OK states that they have thousands of public charging points and are planning even more during 2025.
