Ørsted is one of the founders of Green Fuels for Denmark and is now dropping out of the project, which was to supply green aviation fuel to Danish domestic traffic, among other things. Ørsted writes in an email to Finans that the company is definitively withdrawing from the project after the energy giant put its participation on hold in September.

- We still think the vision behind Green Fuels for Denmark is good, says Robert Duncalf, who is responsible for Ørsted's European PtX projects to Finans and adds:

- However, it is no longer the right match for Ørsted, as we focus on our core business, which is wind energy with green hydrogen as a relevant and complementary technology,

Green Fuels for Denmark was founded in 2020 as a partnership with the participation of, among others, Mærsk, DSV, SAS and Copenhagen Airport. The expectation was that, among other things, it would be able to supply fuel for the green domestic route, which was scheduled to take off next year. As part of the project, a large Power-to-X plant was to be built at the Ørsted power plant in Avedøre in the long term, which would convert green electricity into fuel. Before then, a smaller demonstration plant was to provide useful experience before production was scaled up.

The project has also received a commitment to public support in the region of DKK 600 million. In September, Ørsted announced that it had put the project on hold for the time being. The final farewell to Green Fuels for Denmark comes in the wake of Ørsted also withdrawing from the Swedish Flagship One project a month ago. The company is also no longer involved in the construction of a planned hydrogen factory near Holstebro.
