The Danish Electricity Regulatory Authority has completed an inspection of Danish grid companies and found it appropriate to provide guidance on how the companies can ensure greater transparency in their tariffs and the methods behind charging. This is what the Danish Electricity Authority writes about.
– Transparency regarding the grid companies' tariffs is important to ensure that consumers have the opportunity to understand the basis for the significant part of their total electricity bill, which is the grid tariffs, says Director of the Danish Electricity Authority Carsten Smidt.
The Authority has not given rise to any injunctions or other enforcement actions, but the dialogue with the companies has shown, according to the Danish Electricity Authority, that there is a need for guidance.
The Danish Electricity Authority is responsible for approving the methods behind tariff collection, including that they reflect the costs that different consumer groups impose on the electricity grid.
– The increasing use of time-differentiated tariffs makes it even more important that consumers can find out as easily as possible which tariff methods their local grid company uses and what the tariffs amount to in kroner and øre, says Carsten Smidt.
The experiences that the Authority has provided will now will be used in a new inspection that will examine whether the companies are following the methods they have been approved for. The next inspection is expected to start before the summer holidays.
– Our attention was heightened in connection with the completed inspection when several network companies expressed uncertainty about the methods they had been approved by us. This raised some concern that some network companies might not be using the approved methods correctly, says Carsten Smidt.
