HELSINGØR: Helsingør City Council has adopted the local plan for a 60-hectare solar park at Skibstrup outside Ålsgårde. The project, planned by the municipally owned Forsyning Helsingør in collaboration with European Energy, is to be able to supply electricity equivalent to 20 percent of the municipality's electricity consumption. Preparations for the solar park have been underway for five years. This is reported by Sjællandske Nyheder.

At the city council meeting, a majority consisting of the Conservatives, the Social Democrats, the Radicals, the Unity List and the SF voted in favor of the local plan. Only a possible decision in an appeals board can now prevent the implementation if the parties behind it continue to assess that it is economically viable. The project has met with criticism for both its process and location. Mette Lene Jensen (V), who is the chairwoman of the Climate and Sustainability Committee, expressed doubts during the debate.

- The process has been less good, the land has been bought before, something has been decided. We have not had other locations in play. However, the project has become better than before with better consideration for the surroundings, she said, according to the local media.

Opponents of the project include the DF, the Danish Democrats and the Moderates. However, they were voted down, and must hope that the appeals board gives the thumbs down to the project. This has happened before: a previous local plan was rejected by the Planning Appeals Board in 2023 due to a lack of explanation of the impact on the protected pointed-nosed frog. It is not yet known when construction work on the solar park can begin.
