As part of the upcoming rural development initiative, the government will annually distribute 200 million kroner to the municipalities that contribute most to the expansion of renewable energy on land.
According to Minister of Urban and Rural Development Morten Dahlin (V), the municipalities can use the money as they wish. For example, to improve the level of service for citizens.
The compensation scheme is a source of joy for the Rural Communities Council, many of whom have long called for better conditions for municipalities and local communities that set aside land for wind turbines and solar parks. It is particularly pleasing that the municipalities themselves will have the right to decide how the funds will be used, the organization states in a statement.
- The proposal compensates municipalities that want to contribute to the green transition and install solar cells and wind turbines - that in itself is positive. But the most important detail is perhaps that the municipalities themselves can budget the funds for their operations, whether it is for more educators, home helpers, school buses or other service improvements, says chairman of the Rural District Council, Steffen Damsgaard.
The Rural District Council is now looking forward to clarifying how many municipalities will share in the 200 million kroner.
- It is still too early to say whether 200 million kroner will be enough, because it depends on how many municipalities will be included in the agreement. But combined with previous initiatives, such as increased compensation for the energy plants' closest neighbors and a larger contribution to the Green Pool, the proposal is an important step in the right direction, says Steffen Damsgaard.
