In 2023, Ewii launched plans for a large multi-million investment in battery systems, with the energy company launching plans to invest a three-digit million amount in the systems.
Among other things, a battery energy storage system (BESS) was to be built at Hasle on Bornholm with a capacity of 30 MW and 43 MWh. The capacity makes the battery system Denmark's largest, and it will be able to supply the entire island of Bornholm for approximately one hour. Ewii has now reached a milestone in terms of the commissioning of the battery. This is stated by Ewii in a post on its LinkedIn profile.
"We have now reached the point where the very large plug has been inserted into the battery, so that it is connected to the electricity grid. Over the next few months, we will test and approve all connections in the battery. When it is put into operation, it will help ensure balance in the overall electricity grid by delivering system services to Energinet," the post reads.
Hitachi Energy is responsible for delivering the large battery energy storage system.
