The headquarters of the Swiss energy company Energie 360° has undergone extensive renovation and conversion from March 2023 to March 2025. The work has included a modernization of the building's technical installations, an update of the interior surfaces and an upgrade of the outdoor areas with more planting. Solar panels on the roof and facade play a central role in the transformation. Energie 360° writes in a press release.
- Energie 360° now produces around half of its annual energy consumption itself, says Michael Baumer, chairman of the board of Energie 360°.
According to the company's CEO Jörg Wild, 1,600 solar modules have been installed on the building, which will generate approximately 325 megawatt hours of renewable energy annually.
- The roof and facade system turns our headquarters in Altstetten into a green power plant, he says of Energie 360°'s headquarters, which is located in the Zurich-Altstetten district.
Fire safety was a particular challenge in the project, as Swiss regulations were tightened in the middle of the approval phase. For buildings over 11 meters high, it became a requirement to prove that a fire in the solar cells would not spread over more than two floors. Since Switzerland did not have a test facility to verify this, the solution was found in Germany, where fire tests were carried out in Leipzig.
The project shows that despite strict safety requirements, it is possible to establish large solar cell facades without compromising architectural quality.
Energie 360° is generally investing heavily in solar energy and is planning further investments in solar cell projects in Switzerland. The company has, among other things, secured major contracts for solar cell systems on noise barriers along highways.
