Recently, several larger battery storage systems (Bess) have seen the light of day, including Ewii's construction of Denmark's largest battery on Bornholm, which will have a capacity of 30 MW.

The battery that Better Energy has on the way on another Danish island is not quite as large. The ten MW lithium-ion battery system that the company has begun construction of in connection with the Hoby solar park on Lolland is, on the other hand, the first battery system that Better Energy is behind.

The BESS project makes it possible to store excess renewable energy for peak periods and work towards ensuring that green electricity is regularly available. The company said in a statement.

- The BESS project, which is connected to our Hoby solar farm, creates another opportunity for us to promote the flexibility that will be crucial for building a power system based on renewable energy, says Viggo Aavang, Senior Vice President of Power Markets at Better Energy.

Better Energy's BESS project is expected to deliver 12 MWh of energy storage, which is one of the largest planned projects in connection with a solar farm in Denmark to date. Hoby solar farm was connected to the grid in August 2023 and has a production capacity of 70 GWh,

The construction of Better Energy's battery storage system has just started and it is expected to be ready for operation by the end of 2024.
