ASSENS: Solar cells on municipal roofs and land have been part of Assens Municipality's plans to reduce CO2 emissions by 70 percent by 2030 and achieve CO2 neutrality by 2050. But now the plans have been put on hold. This is reported by Fyens Stiftstidende.
The municipality has therefore examined the municipal roofs, and none of them have large enough roof surfaces that also have the load-bearing capacity for solar cell systems. In that case, large sums of money would have to be invested in reinforcements. In order to install solar cells on municipal land, an operating company would have to be established, which according to the municipality's calculations would realize a deficit of almost 800,000 over 30 years.
Instead of completely shelving the plans, the municipality is now investigating the possibility of collaborating with a private player to install solar cell systems.
