VIBORG: Viborg Municipality has decided to put the expansion of renewable energy on hold. This is stated in the constitution agreement, which all parties in the newly elected city council are behind. This is reported by TV Midtvest.
"The city council will for the time being stop planning additional renewable energy plants beyond those for which the city council has already adopted local plans. However, the initiated planning of EnergiparkTjele will be maintained with the exclusion of solar cell plants. As for EnergiparkTjele, this will be maintained on the condition that the infrastructure in the area is solved in a satisfactory manner, including by new road layout," the agreement states.
Despite the fact that the party itself is part of the agreement, the pause in green energy projects annoys Stine Isaksen, who is a city council member for the Alternative. She emphasizes that the decision to slow down the green expansion is a step backwards for the climate, but finds comfort in the ambition that the municipality will be self-sufficient in green electricity by 2030.
- These are not unimportant projects that are now being put on hold. There are those who have shown the way to becoming self-sufficient in green energy. Both companies and the municipality have spent large resources on planning. It has now been scrapped, and we will start from scratch again. It is really a shame, she says.
The Danish Democrats, on the other hand, see the decision as a victory for local communities. City council member Torsten Nielsen emphasizes that the citizens' concerns must outweigh the expansion of solar and wind farms.
