Only about one km of pipe laying is left before Aabenraa Fjernvarme's connection to Kassø PtX is complete. The plan is that there will be surplus heat for the coming winter season for district heating customers in Rødekro. The flexible agreement that has been entered into between European Energy and Aabenraa means that 50,000 MWh of surplus heat per year will be used. The pipe is even designed to accommodate an even greater capacity.
Tommy Palmholt, CEO of Aabenraa Fjernvarme, is very happy with the agreement and the collaboration with European Energy, which he calls fantastic and built on mutual trust. When you ask him what advice he would give to other district heating plants, there is little doubt.
- Get started and have a proper talk about it. Both parties must be able to see an advantage in a collaboration, so look at it from both sides, says Tommy Palmholt and explains in more detail:
- Respect that the one who supplies the surplus heat should also be able to see a small return.
European Energy will contribute to the local community
When many more PtX plants are probably going up in the future, the director also has hope.
- I hope that other private energy companies can also see the benefits of a collaboration that European Energy has been able to, says Tommy Palmholt, who also leaves no doubt that there has been a great commitment from the energy company.
- European Energy really wants to contribute to the local community, and we have clearly felt that, he says.
Aabenraa Fjernvarme has 10,000 customers and already covers Aabenraa and Rødekro. And there are already approved expansions underway in the villages of Varnæs, Bovrup, as well as at Bollerslev and Felsted.
Now the station town of Tinglev, with its approximately 2,700 inhabitants, is waiting for a project proposal, which is currently being prepared. So it is not a small district heating company that is now taking the lead with the surplus heat from PtX.
- We have 42 employees, so we have the capacity to undertake a task like this, says Tommy Palmholt.
