Citizen protests stop energy park on Zealand

A planned energy park at Gørlev is not coming to fruition. The project was supposed to include solar cells, a hydrogen plant, a biogas plant and a pyrolysis plant, but the latter in particular caused concern among local citizens. After a month of massive local resistance, the initiators behind Energipark Vestsjælland have chosen to withdraw their local plan proposal. This is reported by Sjællandske Nyheder.

"The town hall meeting in Gørlev Hallen on October 2nd, and the feedback received thereafter, have given us clarity that the many new technologies, including pyrolysis, that the local plan contains, cause too many uncertainties for neighbors and citizens in Gørlev. As local stakeholders, we do not want concerns and uncertainties about new technologies to arise. We have therefore requested Kalundborg Municipality to stop the local plan process for the submitted local plan proposal and municipal plan amendment, which are under consultation," the project makers write in a press release.

Mayor of Kalundborg Municipality Martin Damm (L) informs TV2 Øst that the municipality will close the case quickly. He calls the project too big and too close to the city and emphasizes that there is no reason to drag out the process. The citizens' group now plans to continue the cooperation in order to be ready if a new energy project is presented in the area.
