"Put the money to work now."
That is the brief message from the Hydrogen Industry, which is demanding a clear statement from the government about the unused so-called IPCEI funds of over 500 million DKK, which are currently gathering dust in the treasury, rather than contributing to the green transition.
- It is important that the money is put to work as soon as possible, says the Hydrogen Industry's director, Tejs Laustsen Jensen.
- We live in a time when there is a massive need to accelerate the green transition and, not least, ensure increased Danish production of green fuels. It is a rather low bar to set that the funds we have already allocated can, after all, also be put to work. It is frankly incomprehensible that it should take so long, not least in light of the government's rightly high ambitions in the green area.
Denmark participated in the EU's IPCEI round for hydrogen in 2021-2022, but in 2024 it became clear that not all of the allocated funds could be used by the original beneficiaries.
According to the political agreement, the money in such cases should be used for other projects within hydrogen and Power-to-X, but the hydrogen industry is experiencing that the matter is at a standstill.
- We need clarity and for new investments, and the government should have the money implemented this year, not least for the sake of a more resilient Europe, where we become less dependent on imports from third countries, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen.
