The future offers more service ports when more offshore wind farms are built. This provides local development and job opportunities. In Klintholm Havn, Morten Skouboe is Vattenfall's head of site for Denmark's largest wind farm, and he provides an insight into what it takes to become a local subcontractor in the wind turbine industry. And good service and quality are the watchwords here.
- Do something properly, and we'll smile and pay. It's the service to the offshore industry that the locals need to live off, explains Morten Skouboe, who has a fixed principle when a subcontractor is needed:
- I always ask the local companies first - and I do that with everything.
Sometimes it still ends up that Morten Skouboe reluctantly has to use subcontractors who don't come from the local area. It could be work on Vattenfall's building in Klintholm Havn, and it's not the price that's decisive.
- We don't even get to talk about the price, says Morten Skouboe, who often experiences either refusals for work or he doesn't get a response to his inquiry from local companies.
If that happens, the tasks will be tendered outside the local area, even though there is a desire to tender the work locally.
- I won't kneel down for the locals to take the work, says Morten Skouboe, even though he would rather see the locals seize the opportunities.
The food packages
Vattenfall has brought together 36 employees, in addition to Siemens Gamesa having 12 employees who will work together with Vattenfall's people until three years after the commissioning of Kriegers Flak, which has been in operation since 2021. The service work takes place year-round, and it requires catering for the employees.
- We need lunch boxes 365 days a year, and it doesn't matter if the lunch boxes don't arrive, for example due to illness. We have a really good supplier in Brugsen in Stege, where we pick up lunch boxes 365 days a year, says Morten Skouboe about the necessary stability in lunch box delivery.
Stege is located almost 17 km from Vattenfall's service center in Klintholm Havn. Local involvement and being an active part of the port also plays a big role for Morten Skouboe.
- We also help when the port holds cleaning days and in connection with the floods last autumn, he says.
When more wind farms and more service centers are built around the country, the advice is to offer yourself and seize the opportunities.
- There won't be a bag of money on the harbor quay, but the opportunities will be there for local businesses, Morten Skouboe confirms.
