Vestforbrænding sends six new district heating projects out to tender

Vestforbrænding has opened the tender for six turnkey contracts in Ballerup, Herlev, Gladsaxe, Lyngby-Taarbæk, Furesø and Frederikssund. The projects are part of the Heating Plan 2030 and will give approximately 17,000 households the opportunity to switch to district heating.

17,000 households in Ballerup, Herlev, Gladsaxe, Lyngby-Taarbæk, Furesø and Frederikssund will soon have the opportunity to replace their oil or gas boilers with district heating. Vestforbrænding has therefore put out to tender six turnkey contracts for the district heating projects, one for each municipality. These contracts are all part of Vestforbrænding's Heating Plan 2030's second stage, the utility company said in a statement.

The new tenders include design, planning and execution of supply networks as well as installation at customers' premises. The contractors must establish main lines, exchanger stations, distribution lines, branch lines and customer installations as well as remove existing heating solutions.

- We have big ambitions, and we cannot achieve our goals alone. We need a lot of strong partners to carry out the tasks. We are therefore proud that we are now ready to put Stage 2 out to tender and are planning a number of other tenders in the coming years, says Director of Vestforbrænding Steen Neuchs Vedel, in a press release.

Vestforbrænding has previously put out to tender Stage 1 of the Heating Plan 2030, which is underway, and the experiences from this have been included in the new tender round. Work on Stage 2 is expected to take place in the period 2026-2030.

- There is a huge amount of work behind the tender. We have learned a lot from Stage 1, which is in full swing right now. We have naturally benefited from the many insights we have gained in the tender process. Now the next step is to find general contractors for as many as six turnkey contracts, so that we can get started with the work”, says Area Manager for Green Heat Supply at Vestforbrænding, Bjørk Paamand Olsen.

In parallel with the new turnkey contracts, Vestforbrænding will also tender smaller specialist and main contracts in existing district heating areas. In addition, the establishment of 10-15 power plants and increased storage capacity is planned to ensure that the district heating supply can meet future needs. The planning of these initiatives is still at an early stage, and the timetable for the upcoming tenders has not yet been determined.
