Solrød Municipality is considering the sale of biogas plants

Ten years ago, Solrød Municipality founded the biogas company Solrød Biogas A/S - the goal was to get companies as co-owners, but this has not been successful.

SOLRØD: In 2014, Solrød Municipality founded the biogas company Solrød Biogas A/S, and the following year the biogas plant was in operation. Originally, the idea was that private companies would be co-owners of the company, which never became a reality, and Solrød Biogas A/S is today 100 percent owned by Solrød Municipality.

The city council in the municipality will now spend DKK 200,000 to investigate whether it should be changed. The city council has decided to investigate the possibility of selling Solrød Biogas A/S.

- Solrød Biogas A/S is Solrød Municipality's most ambitious energy and climate project to date, and the company is successfully delivering green energy to thousands of households, which we can be proud of, says Mayor Emil Blücher (LA).

The investigation into the possibilities for the sale of Solrød Biogas A/S will, among other things, clarify the legal, economic, market and organizational framework for a sale.

- It will be exciting to see what the investigation shows. In the best case scenario, we will be able to sell Solrød Biogas A/S at a reasonable price, while it will still be possible for Solrød Strandrenselaug to deliver seaweed to the biogas plant, for example. As an alternative to a sale, it would also make great sense to investigate the possibilities for a profit payment from the company to the municipality – a so-called distribution. It would be nice to be able to use the money from a possible sale or a profit payment for some of the many one-off expenses for construction projects that we are looking into, says the mayor.

The decision on a possible sale of Solrød Biogas was not the only point regarding the biogas company that the city council discussed. The city council thus appointed Hans Odder as temporary chairman of the board of directors of Solrød Biogas A/S. This is because the current CEO will retire on August 1, and Chairman of the Board Niels Hörup will take over as interim CEO. A new interim Chairman must therefore be found.
