ESBJERG: The Port of Esbjerg is introducing new rules that will ensure decent wages and a proper working environment when companies ship wind turbines at the port in the future, writes Fagbladet 3F.

This is stated in a new social clause that the port has prepared. It will be part of the contracts with companies that rent the port's areas.

This comes after 3F went to the barricades last year together with the Danish Electrical and Plumbing Association, when Ørsted had hired Siemens Gamesa, which in turn hired the Polish company Fairwind, which underpaid their employees at the Port of Esbjerg.

The clause states, among other things, that companies must comply with "agreements with the social partners", and that trade unions and the port must "develop a common approach to challenges with relations with the labour market, including working conditions and health and safety conditions".

In addition, the companies at the port must comply with the Working Environment Act and ensure that a working environment organization is established.

Director of the Port of Esbjerg, Dennis Jul Pedersen, hopes that they can prevent scandals like the one with Fairwind in the future:

- We have found that we will have to regulate this area better, he says and explains the background:

- There are many different subcontractors for the companies that hire themselves out on our sites. Here it is of course important that we ensure that they comply with the legislation, the norms and rules that exist, and that they also pay according to collective agreement terms, says the port director.

Chairman of 3F Esbjerg Transport, Jakob Lykke, is pleased with the new regulation:

- In our opinion, it is the right way to go. It is largely the result of our shop stewards putting pressure on, he says.
