Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) will attend the 77th session of the Nordic Council in Stockholm on Tuesday. Here she will speak about the need to expand Nordic cooperation in a time of political tensions and war.

This includes issues such as hybrid threats, strengthened preparedness, the protection of children and young people on digital platforms, and how to combat cross-border crime.

- In the Nordic countries, we stand together on common challenges to our security. We are bound together by the fundamental trust we have in each other.

- But the security of the Nordic region is not a given. The Nordic region is a key strategic area in Europe with borders on Russia and major Arctic interests. It is an obligation. We must not only follow the development, we must shape it, says Mette Frederiksen in a press release.

The meeting will also be attended by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The Nordic Council consists of members from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland. At the meeting in Stockholm, Mette Frederiksen, in the company of the Faroese parliamentarian, Aksel V. Johannesen, will also present the program for the joint Danish-Faroese presidency of the Nordic Council in 2026.

A significant focus here will be security and preparedness after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Prime Minister will also highlight the hybrid threat landscape, including combating disinformation in the Nordic countries.

Greenland will not participate in the presidency because Greenland has decided to suspend its political participation in the Nordic Council. This has happened because Greenlanders feel they are being given a lower priority.
