ESBJERG: An external investigation into the conditions at Esbjerg Airport indicates that the airport may have to close because "commercial interests have had higher priority than the operation and safety of the airport."

JydskeVestkysten can now describe more details in the report, which was prepared by the international consulting firm Kongstein on behalf of the Municipality of Esbjerg. The report states, among other things, that "the result for Esbjerg Airport is that it does not comply with rules and requirements to the extent required within Safety and Security, neither in documentation, training, follow-up or implementation, and this must be corrected immediately,"

According to the report, the airport lacks a Training Manager, "who is responsible for ensuring that employees have the necessary training and education to be able to perform their tasks properly in every respect in terms of safety, competence and law." An employee who is placed in this position herself states in the report that she does not have the required education and no experience with "self-training". Without this function, the airport cannot have a license to continue operations.

It also appears that airport manager Susanne Kruse Sørensen has registered for the Training Manager course in the summer of 2025, and she has therefore not been able to perform the task. However, she rejects this criticism towards the media outlet, writing in an email response that "the airport (ed.) has always had an approved Training Manager".

Does not recognize statements

In connection with the release of the access to documents to JydskeVesykysten, Esbjerg Municipality has sent the following note to the local newspaper:

"In relation to the released material, Esbjerg Municipality notes that several employees at Esbjerg Airport have subsequently indicated that they cannot recognize their statements as stated in the report".

Neither the mayor, Jesper Frost Rasmussen (V), nor the municipal director, Rikke Vestergaard, have wished to comment on the matter to the media outlet. They refer to the airport manager, Susanne Kruse Sørensen, who does not recognize the picture that the study has drawn.

The consulting firm also describes that they have met resistance from the airport management in connection with the study.
