Modern American Recycling Services – better known as M.A.R.S. in Frederikshavn – is this year's winner of Børsen's gazelle award, where the media pays tribute to growth companies in Denmark.
Børsen particularly notes that M.A.R.S. has experienced growth of 17,649 percent in four years, which is the highest growth in the history of the award, which dates back to 1995.
Earlier in November, CEO Kim Thygesen said in an interview with DOI.dk that the future looked bright for the company. Kim Thygesen also said that work is underway on an expansion in Brazil.
- There will be twice as many quays as here and 100,000 square meters more than here, so we will have 400,000 square meters. We expect to be able to open in 2028 with a long-term contract like this. It will be with the same safety standards and ISO certifications as here; otherwise we cannot attract customers from the oil industry, says Kim Thygesen.
The company opened in Frederikshavn back in 2019 and quickly became known for its work with dismantling the old Tyra platforms. When the company opened, it had six employees, but three months later it had more than 100 employees when the Tyra project began.
Today, there are around 160 employees and between 50 and 70 employees hired through subcontractors
- The future looks very good on the world market, because we came into being at a good time in 2019. There was a demand starting to emerge throughout the industry. We are a recognized brand, and we receive countless inquiries from all over the world, said Kim Thygesen in the previous interview.
Most recently, M.A.R.S. has been tasked with scrapping the 360-meter-long vessel Fluminense FPSO, which has arrived from Brazil and has been on the way for three months, writes TV2 Nord.
The 356,400 DWT ship is the largest to be scrapped in Frederikshavn so far. The ship was originally built as a supertanker in 1975 - since converted to an FPSO and has been anchored off the coast of Brazil, writes Maritme Danmark.
A total of 3,011 gazelle companies have been named this year, which can be found on Børsen's website.
