China will impose tariffs on a number of goods imported from the United States from February 10. This was announced by the Chinese Ministry of Finance, according to the news agency Reuters.

According to the news agency AFP, this applies to American coal and natural gas, among other things. While a tariff of 15 percent will apply to coal and natural gas, imports of agricultural equipment and several American cars will be hit by a tariff of ten percent, writes AFP.

The announcement from China comes in response to an additional tariff of ten percent on goods imported to the United States from China. It came into effect on Tuesday morning Danish time - shortly before the announcement from the Chinese Ministry of Finance.

US President Donald Trump has previously announced that he would impose the additional tariff on goods from China from Tuesday. At 00:01 on Tuesday night, American time, this became a reality.

A few hours after Trump's announcement on Sunday about tariffs on Chinese goods, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that it would come up with "an appropriate response". The goal of the Chinese response is to "defend its own rights and interests", the ministry said, according to AFP.

- China is very dissatisfied and strongly opposed to this, the message continued.

Has complained to the WTO

According to China, the US tariffs are a "serious violation" of the WTO's global trade rules. Therefore, China has officially complained to the WTO about the US tariffs. This is what AFP writes on Tuesday morning.

Following China's response, Chinese authorities have announced, according to AFP, that they will investigate Google for violating competition rules. According to China, the tech giant may have violated Chinese legislation that is intended to limit monopoly companies.

Donald Trump had also imposed tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods. The tariffs were 25 percent.

However, Canada and the United States reached an agreement on Tuesday night to suspend the new tariffs on Canadian goods in the United States for 30 days. A similar agreement was reached between Mexico and the United States shortly before.
