HJØRRING: Since May 2024, Hirtshals District Heating has been in reconstruction because the company could no longer pay its creditors on time. But now Hjørring Municipality has provided a municipal loan guarantee of 16.1 million. DKK, and the district heating company has thus had its reconstruction proposal approved. This is reported by TV 2 Nord.
The district heating company got into trouble after the company speculated in energy prices in 2018 together with three other companies in North Jutland. The companies bet that the electricity price would remain low, but when that did not happen, the companies lost a total of a double-digit million.
The company then tried to have the loss covered by the heating customers, but the Danish Electricity Supply Authority ruled in January last year that this method was not permitted.
