FREDERIKSHAVN: All city council members now have access to the central documents concerning the sale of buildings at Frederikshavn Harbour. The decision was made on Sunday evening at an extraordinary group chairman's meeting. Until now, only a select group had had access to the material, but Mayor Karsten Thomsen (S) has now granted the request for full access to the case to all 29 city council members. This is following criticism of the previous practice, which many believed was undemocratic. This is reported by TV2 Nord.

- Now we have decided it, and I am actually happy about that. I think we should talk on an informed basis. It is access to the case, so you have a duty of confidentiality, but it is important that city council members know what the case is about, says Karsten Thomsen (S), who is the mayor of Frederikshavn Municipality.

The documents that are now shared with the entire city council include, among other things, Frederikshavn Municipality's summons against the former port director, the port's former chairman and the port's lawyer. The case files total approximately 1,000 pages of legal assessments, responses and appendices. The decision is welcomed by both the Social Democrats and the Liberal Party, who have long requested access to the entire city council. They hope that it will now be possible to have a more qualified debate and learn from the process. However, the public will not have access to the documents, as the access to the case is confidential.
