A broad majority in the Danish Parliament on Thursday adopted an agreement that paves the way for building a hydrogen pipeline connection from Esbjerg to the German border. This pleases Green Power Denmark.
- It is an excellent agreement for Denmark, Europe and the green transition. We have worked hard to get this hydrogen pipeline. We can now begin the next chapter, where we do not only focus on converting our own energy production. We will become an important contributor to the green transition of Europe, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.
With the agreement, there is an agreement to lower the booking requirement for the first part of the pipeline connection, thus giving Energinet the opportunity to begin work immediately. The agreement also includes a construction law that can expropriate land and limit the possibilities for appeal to ensure that the hydrogen pipeline is ready in 2030.
Will be a gain for Denmark
Danish companies have plans for billions of kroner investments in the production of green hydrogen, which can be initiated with the establishment of the hydrogen pipeline. The industry expects that this will create jobs and improve the economy for solar cell and wind turbine manufacturers.
- In the coming years, we will see a completely new green industry grow up, which will convert green electricity into hydrogen. There is export revenue and jobs in this - not least in South and West Jutland. I have no doubt that the hydrogen pipeline will be a huge gain for Denmark, says Kristian Jensen.
The hydrogen pipeline will eventually be connected to Fredericia and expanded along the west coast of Jutland to ensure more efficient use of green hydrogen production. These other stages of the hydrogen infrastructure have not been set a time frame, but they must not be forgotten, believes Green Power Denmark.
- Now we must ensure that we also get the second part of the pipe further up along the west coast of Jutland. It is crucial that larger areas of Jutland are given the opportunity to feed into the hydrogen pipe. I am pleased that the parties have agreed to proceed with the next stages, says Kristian Jensen.
