If Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, it could be "extremely dangerous" and "not good for anyone", says EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday.

The Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman is one of the busiest straits in the world and an important trade hub. The foreign ministers will also discuss the situation in Gaza and whether Israel is complying with its part of the country's association agreement with the EU.

To this end, Kallas has launched a study, which is now ready and has been presented to EU member states. The foreign policy chief also says that Israel has sent its own responses to compliance with the agreement. These have also been sent to EU member states, according to Kaja Kallas.

The EU's association agreement with Israel is a trade agreement. The ministers will decide whether Israel is complying with Article Two of the agreement, which states that both parties must respect human rights.

The investigation was launched after reports of famine in Gaza emerged as a result of Israel blocking aid from entering Gaza.

On Sunday, Kallas wrote on the social media X about the conflict between Iran and Israel that all parties should return to the negotiating table to avoid further escalation.

She also stressed that Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, as this would be a threat to international security. In addition to the Middle East, the foreign ministers will discuss both Ukraine and China.

- While all eyes are on Iran and the Middle East, people are dying in Kyiv because Russia continues to bomb Ukraine every single day. We will have to maintain the pressure on Russia, says Kaja Kallas.

According to Kaja Kallas, she is therefore pushing for an 18th sanctions package against Russia.

- I can happily tell you that 80 percent of the ammunition initiative has already been achieved, says Kaja Kallas.

But more military support is needed, she believes.
