
In 2022, Ørsted and Esvagt signed an agreement to invest in the world's first SOV (Service Operation Vessels ed.) that can sail on green fuels.
Now that investment has reached a small milestone, as the ship has now been launched from Cemre Shipyard in Turkey. This is evident from a post on LinkedIn.
The ship sails on batteries and dual-fuel engines, which are capable of sailing on e-methanol. This means that it will lead to an annual emission reduction of approximately 4,500 tons of CO2. The ship is 93 meters long and 19.6 meters wide. It will be able to accommodate 124 people and reach a speed of approximately 14 knots.
When the service vessel is finally commissioned in late 2024, it will service the world's largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 2, located off the east coast of England.
