Companies' costs are currently rising sharply, which is mainly due to rising energy prices. An index for producer prices, which covers companies' prices for, among other things, raw materials, energy and transport, rose 33 percent in December compared to the previous year. This is the largest increase ever. This is shown by figures from Statistics Denmark. At Arbejdernes Landsbank, chief economist Jeppe Juul Borre calls the figures startling.
- These are absolutely staggering figures that go completely through the roof. Such sharp increases have never been measured before. Companies' everyday lives have simply become significantly more expensive, and this is something that Danish consumers may also notice. Inflation has already risen to its highest level in 13 years. This is an expression that there may be broader price increases on the way for Danes, where a larger part of consumption may be affected, he says in a written comment.
The latest figures for consumer prices, which cover the goods and services that people buy, showed an increase of just over three percent in December.
