AALBORG: The Port of Aalborg is focusing on international business and will henceforth be called Port of Aalborg. The port announced this in a press release. The name change is the first step in a new international and aggressive 10-year strategy, 'Gate to Great'.

The aim is to double the port's turnover from 200 million DKK, which it had in 2019, to 400 million DKK. The name change shows that it now wants to focus more internationally.

- We believe that increased internationalisation will be one of the most important keys to realising our ambitious goals. However, if we are to succeed in attracting more foreign companies, it requires that we raise our sights and broaden our perspective. With the new name, we are signaling both internally and externally that we are an international port area, and that is crucial, says Claus Holstein, CEO of Port of Aalborg.

In addition to the name change, a number of significant investments follow. In 2020 alone, Port of Aalborg expects to invest 200 million DKK in the framework of the East Port. According to the plan, a full two billion DKK will be invested in new framework and facilities in the port's business park in Aalborg East, according to the strategy.

- The investments are mainly directed towards the hinterland and thus our business park. Our task is no longer just about handling goods over the quay, but more generally about creating a framework that can support companies' operations and growth - including infrastructure, modern warehouse and production facilities and other logistics options such as the railway, says Claus Holstein.

Port of Aalborg has recently invested in a new test hall for testing wind turbine blades for the company Blaest and the construction of a new factory building for the methanol fuel cell company Blue World Technologies.
