A document review at the Court of Hjørring confirms that Modern American Recycling Services, Europe A/S (M.A.R.S.) is involved in several lawsuits in court.
On November 5 this year, M.A.R.S. sued Frederikshavn Municipality and FH Ejendom A/S, which is the property company of Frederikshavn Port.
M.A.R.S.' Danish director, Kim Thygesen, for the company that scraps and recycles oil tankers and drilling platforms at the port of Frederikshavn Port, writes the following in a written response to DOI.dk from a conference in Copenhagen:
- We have no comment on that. I cannot comment on the cases at this time.
The director thus confirms that the cases exist.
There is another case at the Court in Hjørring involving M.A.R.S. The company has already been sued in the spring of 2024 by a former subcontractor, namely Semco Maritime from Esbjerg. The company is a Danish engineering and contracting company that specializes in energy solutions and has approx. 2000 employees.
The size of the lawsuit still remains unknown, and a call to Semco Maritime does not help, because the company has no comments on the lawsuit, says senior vice president Anders Benfeldt.
These are not the only lawsuits that M.A.R.S. is involved in. The company has, as DOI.dk has previously been able to report, been sued by Noble in a multi-million dollar lawsuit due to a collision.
From Frederikshavn Municipality's municipal director Thomas Eriksen, it is briefly stated:
- I have no comments on that.
The Port of Frederikshavn is in financial difficulties due to a debt of approximately 1.7 billion. DKK, which has resulted in the port going from a municipal self-governing port to a municipal port on May 15 this year.
It is not clear from DOI.dk's access to the documents what any of the lawsuits are about. However, according to DOI's information, the lawsuit between Semco Maritime and M.A.R.S. concerns the aftermath of a broken collaboration. However, neither party has wanted to deny or confirm this.
