After several weeks of preparation at the port of Esbjerg, Noble Resolve, which will facilitate the first storage of CO2 in the North Sea's subsurface, is now on its way to the Nini West field in the North Sea to take up its position there. This is stated by the partners behind Project Greensand in a statement.

- It is a big day that everyone in Project Greensand has been looking forward to, and it is becoming very clear that we are now very far along in the work. We look forward to demonstrating how we can make a significant contribution to the green transition in Denmark through safe and permanent storage of CO2 in the North Sea's subsoil, says Project Director in Project Greensand, Søren Reinhold Poulsen.

At the Port of Esbjerg, Noble Resolve has had pumps, heating systems and electrical installations installed and updated, which, together with the remaining equipment on the rig, make it possible to store CO2 safely and permanently in the North Sea's subsoil.

While Noble Resolve has just left the port of Esbjerg, the transport ship Aurora Storm has just returned to Esbjerg from the port of Antwerp. Here, the ship, operated by Blue Water Shipping, has been loaded with 40 special containers of liquid CO2. Now the last equipment on the ship must be installed so that further preparations in Project Greensand continue.

- The entire pilot phase in Project Greensand will culminate in the coming time. There will be plenty to look forward to for everyone in the consortium, and we are very much looking forward to getting started with the work out in the North Sea. We have prepared to the point of exhaustion, and we now have the best conditions to demonstrate how CO2 can be safely and permanently stored 1,800 meters below the surface of the North Sea with a view to large-scale CO2 storage in the Siri area in the future, says Søren Reinhold Poulsen.

In December 2022, the Danish Energy Agency granted Project Greensand the first ever Danish permit for CO2 storage, allowing up to 15,000 tonnes of CO2 to be stored in the Nini West field in Project Greensand's pilot phase.
