Danish ports play a crucial role in supporting the green transition and can ensure Denmark a central role in the growing green industry. Therefore, the development of Danish ports is crucial, state the recommendations from the government's port partnership, which were published on Monday.

The recommendations are being positively received by some of Denmark's largest ports, including Odense, which is Denmark's largest production port for offshore wind. According to the Port of Odense, the lack of space and modern shipping lanes for the Danish ports are particular challenges that need to be addressed.

- It is now beyond doubt that there is a lack of space at Danish ports. The lack of space naturally places a limit on the ports' capacity and hampers the ports' opportunities as a hub that supports the production of offshore wind turbines for the green transition. There are big plans for more offshore wind in Denmark and the rest of Europe, and if the ports are to deliver on the massive expansion plans for offshore wind, it requires investments in the ports' areas, production facilities and access roads, says Carsten Aa, CEO of Odense Havn A/S.

At Port of Aalborg, you can also see several bright spots in the Port Partnership's recommendations for how the Danish ports can develop on market terms with a focus on securing commercial investments and green growth.

- At Port of Aalborg, we welcome the report and not least its purpose. It contains many exciting perspectives that we look forward to exploring in depth, says CEO of Aalborg Port, Kristian Thulesen Dahl. He continues:

- There are of course also areas where we could benefit from being a little sharper. Among other things, in relation to mapping the starting points and potentials of the commercial ports. We are well on our way with the report, but it is crucial that we are fully aware of the ports' positions of strength when national decisions are made, so that we as a nation can secure the necessary infrastructure to meet future needs within the production, storage and shipping of wind turbines, PtX, CCS and green transport in general.

The Port Partnership's recommendations can be read here. They are planned to form the basis for a new port strategy from the government, which is expected to be presented in early 2025.
