The phasing out of gas and the phasing in of solar and wind on land must be accelerated through the establishment of a national energy crisis team (Nekst).
Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M) will present the first members of two working groups on Wednesday, which will challenge conventional thinking and accelerate the process.
- The ambition is easy. We would like to have it all in half the time. But that is easier said than done, says Aagaard at a press conference at Amagerværket.
The working groups operate under Nekst. Over the course of nine months, they will point out barriers to the green transition and come up with solutions. The idea is that proposals for concrete initiatives can be initiated quickly - even while the working groups are still working. The Energy Crisis Team is permanent, and according to Aagaard, other working groups will be established at a later date.
- It has been important to me that the work of finding recommendations is not about finding something that can be agreed upon. This is the best offer from you and your team, which is given to me on behalf of the government. Then we as a government must see afterwards whether we think the analysis is good and whether we want to follow the recommendations that come, says Lars Aagaard.
Two working groups
Next is inspired by Nost (The National Operative Staff), which was launched during the corona period, and which was supposed to contribute to solving the acute challenges during the pandemic.
Initially, there are two working groups. One will identify barriers in relation to how gas is phased out from Danish homes. It will be headed by the chairman of the Danish Industry Foundation, Lars-Peter Søbye. He said at the press conference that the other members of his working group will be introduced soon.
The second working group will look at how to expand solar and wind on land, where the installation of wind turbines has stalled. Nana Bule, an advisor at Goldman Sachs, will lead this project.
The members of the working groups will consist of representatives from the energy sector, authorities and municipalities. In addition, Nekst will include representatives from the business community and academic experts.
