The metal industry is experiencing a slowdown: fewer orders and lower demand for labor

Declining order intake and fewer recruitment needs are worrying TEKNIQ.

Demand in the metal industry is declining, and companies are reporting fewer orders and a downgrading of the need for new employees. This is shown by new figures from Statistics Denmark, which are supported by concerns from the trade organization TEKNIQ. This is what TEKNIQ writes in a press release.

- Many companies are experiencing that tasks are not coming at the same pace as before. Therefore, a lack of employees is moving down the list of concerns, while more companies are noticing that the pace is slowing down and order intake is decreasing, says Maria Schougaard Berntsen, deputy director of TEKNIQ.

The latest data on production restrictions shows that the lack of labor in April is less widespread than previously, while the proportion of companies experiencing a lack of demand is increasing. According to TEKNIQ, this confirms a long-term trend, which is particularly noticeable among companies operating in export markets.

- Tariff wars are straining free trade, and although Trump has pulled back a little in the country, the great uncertainty in the world at the moment unfortunately means that some customers are holding back a bit with their investments and waiting for the time being, says Maria Schougaard Berntsen.

The organization points out that the uncertainty is both political and economic, and that companies must navigate a global reality characterized by rising raw material prices, supply problems and fluctuating exchange rates. This can lead to postponements of investments and thus fewer orders for Danish companies.

- When companies do not know how the market is developing, they naturally become more cautious about expanding and investing. This ultimately affects the entire economy, says Maria Schougaard Berntsen.
