Harvard University sued the US government on Monday for conducting an unconstitutional campaign against the university. The New York Times and The Harvard Crimson reported that the prestigious Boston university has entered into a conflict with President Donald Trump's administration after the university's leadership refused to comply with a number of demands.

The government does not believe that Harvard University is doing enough to combat anti-Semitism. Last week, the US Department of Education decided to freeze around $2.2 billion in federal aid to the university. This is equivalent to 14.5 billion kroner. In addition to freezing financial aid, Donald Trump has threatened Harvard with removing the university's tax exemption.

Harvard has also been threatened with having its ability to admit international students revoked. Harvard University President Alan Garber accused the government in a statement on Monday of trying to exert "unprecedented and inappropriate control" over the university, the New York Times writes.

Garber believes that the consequences of the government's actions will be "serious and long-lasting," it continues. The Harvard president has previously said that vital research will stop if the government freezes federal funding.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in the state of Massachusetts, accuses the government of carrying out a broad attack on Harvard. Columbia University in New York has been through the same thing. Here, the government blocked a grant of 400 million dollars, equivalent to 2.6 billion kroner.

Subsequently, the university management introduced a number of measures against anti-Semitism. This included supervision of some faculties and protests against Israel.
