District heating Funen is among the ten projects that have been prequalified to apply for support from the state's CCS pool of 28.7 billion. DKK. A total of 16 projects had applied.

The Funen company is very satisfied. The company itself describes in a press release that the jubilation was unmistakable when it was revealed that the project had now moved on to the next phase. The ambition is to establish CO2 capture at the waste-to-energy plant and thereby remove 280,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year.

- I am very pleased that we can now embark on the last part of the journey towards climate neutrality together with our board of directors and not least our owners, says Louise Høst, CEO of Fjernvarme Fyn.

The project is dependent on several factors - including support from the CCS pool, sale of CO2 credits and approval from Odense and Nordfyns Municipality for a 15-year commitment to capture.

- We look forward to continuing the dialogue with the Danish Energy Agency about the framework that we are offering. The state needs us to commit ourselves. We need to ensure that unnecessary risks are not placed on companies like ours, says Louise Høst.

The company expects to submit a final application for support in December 2025. The allocation of funds from the CCS pool will take place in April 2026. Until then, work on project development and dialogue with the Danish Energy Agency will continue.
