Nine district heating companies are among the ten applicants that have been prequalified for the state's CCS pool of DKK 28.7 billion. This is the next step in the development of CO2 capture in Denmark, where the companies will now have the opportunity to bid for support for specific projects. This is a huge victory for the sector, where there is a great desire to contribute with CO2 capture, says a press release from the trade organization Danish District Heating.
- CO2 capture in energy production is necessary to achieve climate goals, and more than half of the Danish climate potential from CO2 capture is found in the district heating sector. Therefore, we are very pleased to see such a large share from the sector that has achieved prequalification. The sector is ambitious and shows that it has a desire to contribute positively to the reduction of CO2 emissions in Denmark, says Jannick H. Buhl, Area Manager for CCUS at Dansk Fjernvarme.
The fund, which was applied for by 16 companies, is intended to promote the capture and storage of CO2 from, among other things, energy production. The prequalified players are geographically distributed throughout the country and represent both industry and district heating. The applicants now have until August 26 to submit initial bids. Final and binding bids are expected in December 2025. The companies that are awarded funds commit to CO2 capture and storage from 2030.
Dansk Fjernvarme is also calling for political action to be taken on the six projects that were not prequalified. The organization believes that these projects also have the potential to contribute to CO2 reduction and should be supported in the further work to achieve Denmark's climate goals.
The prequalified companies are: AffaldPlus Affaldsenergi A/S, ARGO CCS A/S, E.ON Carbon Capture Solutions Copenhagen ApS, Energnist CaptureCo A/S, Fjernvarme Fyn Fangst A/S, Gaia ProjectCo P/S, HOFOR DSS SPV A/S, Kredsløb Holding A/S, Ørsted Bioenergy & Thermal Power A/S and Aalborg Portland A/S.
