AARHUS: A majority in Aarhus City Council has decided in the climate agreement to stick to the designation of three areas in the municipality where a total of ten new wind turbines can be erected. Three of them are at Vosnæs, and if they become a reality, Nrgi, the developer of the project, expects that they can supply green electricity to 10-12,000 households.
With the support of the city council, the Technical and Environmental Administration in Aarhus Municipality is now embarking on taking the next step in the process and giving the green light to begin work on a local plan, a municipal plan supplement, and a comprehensive environmental assessment of the project and plan. Head of Administration at the Department of Technology and Environment Michael Tolstrup looks forward to the work of raising the climate agenda, but also acknowledges the concerns in the local area, where several people have expressed opposition to the project, the municipality states in a statement.
- I can easily understand the opposition from those who could become the closest neighbors to the turbines, and I am impressed by their thorough preparatory work, he says and adds.
- A majority of the city council has adopted a green and ambitious climate plan, and therefore we as an administration are now working on the project.
Focus on citizen involvement
As a result of the opposition to the project in Vosnæs, the Department of Technology and Environment has carried out an extended citizen involvement, where both supporters and opponents of the project have been right in the engine room and participated in a working group together with the municipality and NRGI.
The working group has come up with suggestions for project adjustments and ideas for improvements of the local area. On this basis, Nrgi Renewables has offered to incorporate a number of elements into the wind turbine project.
Among other things, residents in the local area will have the opportunity to buy ownership shares in the wind turbines and the crane sites under each wind turbine will be decorated with native planting, stone settings, etc.
- There has been a constructive dialogue in the working group, and both those who voted positively and negatively have worked constructively with the task of getting the developer to adapt the project as best as possible to the area, says Michael Tolstrup.
In addition to the ideas that are incorporated into the project in connection with a realization, NRGI is also obliged to contribute to a so-called Green Pool when the wind turbines are installed and producing electricity. After the new increased rates for the Green Pool, NRGI must pay approximately 4,218,750 kroner to the Green Pool.
