A new solar park of 122 hectares southeast of the town of Kolind in Syddjurs is on its way to seeing the light of day. Thus, the first sod has been turned on the green project. Behind the energy project is NRGi Renewables, which has developed it in close cooperation and dialogue with Syddjurs Municipality, the local community, the landowners and the nearest neighbors.
However, the project would hardly have become a reality at the same pace if there had been no support from the business community. Thus, several companies, including Molslinjen, Rolltech and Stark, have chosen to contribute to the project by entering into Power Purchase Agreements (PPA agreements) via Energi Danmark. This is stated by NRGi in a press release.
- We have been pleased with the great support and dialogue we have experienced around our solar park at Kolind. It is fantastic to see how companies actively choose to support the green transition through PPA agreements. This type of collaboration shows that the business community is ready to take responsibility and wants to contribute to a sustainable future, says Martin Eghøj Laursen, Commercial Director at NRGi Renewables.
Energy will power the electric ferry
The PPA agreements mean that the companies commit to purchasing electricity from the solar park. This not only ensures a financial contribution to the project, but also gives the companies a competitive price for renewable energy for a longer period of time.
- The construction industry is responsible for approximately 30 percent of Denmark's CO2 emissions, and everyone in the industry bears a responsibility to reduce our climate footprint. As Denmark's largest retailer and distributor of building materials, we have a special responsibility, and we are therefore very satisfied with the agreement with Energi Danmark, says Christian Stokholm, Director of Strategy and Business Development at Stark.
Another customer is Molslinjen, which will use the renewable energy to operate the upcoming electric ferry Nerthus, which is currently being built at a shipyard in Turkey, on the Alslinjen between Bøjden and Fynshav.
- We cannot send the production from the solar park directly to Als - but we contribute to increasing the total amount of renewable energy in the electricity grid, while at the same time using a similar amount of electricity on Als when the new electric ferry arrives on the route around the turn of the year, says Molslinjen's CEO, Kristian Durhuus.
Energi Danmark: A win-win situation
At Energi Danmark, which is responsible for managing risk and balancing, which reduces companies' exposure to future energy price increases, they are also pleased that more and more several companies have opened their eyes to PPA agreements and the opportunities they offer.
- We are incredibly proud to be able to offer our customers real additionality in the market. By purchasing electricity from this new solar park, our customers are directly helping to accelerate the green transition. It is a win-win situation where we not only support our customers' sustainable goals, but also push for a more sustainable future for all of us, says Kim Nielsen, Head of Sales, Energi Danmark.
The upcoming solar park is expected to be ready for operation in the spring of 2025.
