Ørsted has completed the acquisition of the Ballinrea solar project in Ireland from Terra Solar. The 65 MW solar project will be located in Cork, Ireland's second largest city, and will be Ørsted's first solar project in the country.

The solar plant is expected to produce enough green energy to power up to 16,000 Irish households – equivalent to almost all new homes built in Cork between now and 2028.

"This transaction is an important milestone as it is the first Irish solar project that Ørsted has acquired. The project will make an important contribution to Ireland's national energy target of 80% green electricity by 2030 and to the Irish government's new target of 5.5 GW of solar energy," says Kieran White, Vice President Europe Onshore at Ørsted.

The Ballinrea project contributes to Ørsted Onshore's ambition to expand its global portfolio towards a 50/50 mix of wind and solar energy towards 2030.
