Lego must reduce the solar cell project Billund Solcellepark just outside the city limits of Billund, after the Danish Environmental Protection Agency objected to part of the planned area. Originally, the plans called for a total project area of around 135 hectares, but after changes in the consultation phase, the area has been reduced to approximately 102 hectares. The background is that an area west of Koldingvej has been designated as a landscape worthy of conservation and therefore must initially be kept free of technical installations. It writes JydskeVestkysten.
During the consultation phase for the project, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency made Billund Municipality aware that solar cells in the area would change a landscape worthy of preservation. A letter from the Danish Planning and Rural Development Agency states that the Danish Environmental Protection Agency's objection could be waived if the municipality removed the area in question from the plans. This happened, and the change means that the area west of Koldingvej cannot be used for solar cells – neither now nor at a later date. At the same time, it has been determined that no further planting is allowed in the area in order to preserve the current appearance of the landscape.
After the adjustment, the municipal council was able to adopt the local plan and the municipal plan amendment. The solar cell plant is expected to be completed during 2027.
