Danes may experience fewer fluctuations in electricity prices in the future. This is shown by an analysis published by the industry organization Green Power Denmark, which acts as a spokesperson for parts of the Danish energy sector.

Green Power Denmark has analyzed fluctuations in electricity prices for 2024 and compared them with model calculations for the possible electricity price over the day for 2030 and 2050.

In the future, there may be both fewer hours with negative electricity prices and fewer hours with very high electricity prices, writes the industry organization.

According to Green Power Denmark, electricity price developments will be stabilized by a green energy system based on wind turbines, solar cells and batteries. Batteries can store and then release power quickly to contribute to the balance in the electricity system.

- But we are seeing a development where battery technology is gaining ground, and where the growing and new electricity consumption is more flexible, says energy analyst at Green Power Denmark, Kristian Rune Poulsen, to the organization's website.

He points, among other things, to electric car owners who charge their electric cars when electricity is cheapest. Danes and Europeans experienced large fluctuations in electricity prices in connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. It is fluctuations like these that can be avoided in the future, says Kristian Rune Poulsen.

- High electricity prices are an expression of the fact that the energy system is under pressure because we are about to exhaust our reserves of electricity production. That's why we shouldn't have too many of these large fluctuations, he tells the website.

According to Green Power Denmark, which works to convert Denmark and Europe to green energy and to electrify society, the reduction in fluctuations depends on how quickly fossil fuels are replaced by green electricity.

According to the organization's website, Green Power Denmark has approximately 1,500 members, including companies and knowledge institutions.
